For Urban Pets
Montserrat Cubría creates furniture for pets that fit with our actual home decoration.
It all started as a game. When I was finishing an interior design job, in which everything fitted in, it was a shame to see the typical pet’s mat, with colourful and childish prints, breaking the aesthetic of the place. I thought the best thing would be to have a suitable piece designed specially for the pet.
Suddenly one day, a client asked us in our workshop in Italy to make a reproduction for the pet, of a sofa that she had in her living room.
After her order, there came others, and finally when I set up the business in Spain and after thinking about it, I decided to start my own upholstery workshop, with a collection specially made for pets. That was two years ago, and TheCoolDog was born under the shape of a collection of beds and sofas for urban cats and dogs.
Designing the furniture was the easiest part of it; since it’s what I can do better. The second part of it was making a good marketing management: Improving the original idea.
We need to remind that making design furniture for pets in Spain isn’t a common thing, and we had to sell the idea quite well since the beginning. So, where could we start? We identified the best showrooms in every state, found the best stores where the product could fit, and step by step, with a spider web work, we connected all of them.
Actually they are sold in 10 cities, hobnobbing with the best interior design brands of the world. I must admit it was so much fun; in the beginning we called on the phone and when we started explaining what we did, they answered that they were a store of furniture, not for animals. But we were sure that once they saw them, they would be convinced, and that is how it happened.
Now we are trying to jump to the international field. In which we have already started, after being invited to the most important fair in the world: Pet Fashion Week in New York. There we have made lots of contacts, and the media has received our proposals with a great interest. An order from the United States, Germany or France...Etc, would make me so happy.
In all these countries they have lots of respect and love toward their animals, establishing with them very special relations, and their pets are very well raised, just as the consignees of our sofas.
